Hanoi Rocks
didn’t tour as much in 2006 as in 2005 since we didn’t have a new album
to promote. The music business usually works that way, you make a
record and then you go on tour to promote it. Luckily, Hanoi’s
reputation is strong enough to keep us busy anyway.
The band has become
like a big machine. Sometimes I’ve find myself walking on stage at some
festival, not having seen the guys for quite some time, not knowing
what equipment there’s gonna be, how big the stage is etc and from the
first chord it’s just "there". Sure we fall apart at the seams here and
there (as a matter of fact, things can get VERY loose), but we always
seem to pick up the thread and sew it all back together.. Did a bunch
of shows with Ginger as well. We don’t see each other often but it’s
great when we do.
This time in UK on a bunch of occasions, a few gigs
in Japan and 2 nights in New York. A big band making a big noise!
Another cool event was when I was asked to play at the Polar Prize
banquette in front of Led Zeppelin. Since it had to do with them
getting the prize I was asked to perform some Zep stuff which I wasn’t
so keen on (how many time have you heard ”Whole lotta love” torn to
pieces by bad coverbands?)..
However, I came up with a different idea
to do it with my friend Svante Drake on ”human beatbox” . I also added
stand up bass and mandolin. The song we did was my ”Song for Rory” with
Zep stuff thrown in as some kind of medley. Jimmy Page asked to see me
after the gig and thanked me, and it was nice to get ”thumbs up” from
the man himself. A true gentleman.
I also got divorced this year, which
explains the delay of my solo album. People change, we are not the same
persons now that we were 12 years ago and sometimes one has to judge
things from a new perspective. It's sad that so many relationships have
to end up this way (feels like everyone got divorced this year!) but
all in life isn’t pink and fluffy. Gonna be a busy year musically now!
It’s 2007 and Hanoi Rocks is working on songs for the next album, which
is gonna be a killer. Also, I’ve got my own solo album to release after
that and the combined "Conny Bloom compilation / Psychonaut" CD as well
as some other stuff, so things are looking good!!! Ok! That’s it for
now.. C-ya on the road. Give love and respect!
